Gail S. Kotel
Gail S. Kotel has been painting portraits since her time at Music & Art H.S. in NYC, finding her medium in repurposed materials. After graduating from SUNY Purchase on a full merit scholarship with her BFA in sculpture and printmaking, Gail began upcycling other people’s trash into art. She finds landscapes within a face, planes of color, a million shapes forming a geography full of endless emotions. Everyone has eyes, nose and a mouth, but no two faces are the same. Gail notices that lives lived are stored in the eyes, mouth and cheekbones. Her non-traditional watercolors, Sumi ink and oils have been exhibited extensively in NYC, Philadelphia and Portland and are in private collections throughout the East Coast and as far as Colorado, Oregon and Sweden. Gail Kotel lives in Philadelphia where she owns and is the lead Physical Therapist at Therapeutic Pilates, a Pilates based PT practice.
