Berit Jarama Estabrook
“Berit Jarama Estabrook, born in Mexico of Peruvian and Norwegian parents, grew up in Sweden. She then moved to Austria and presently lives in the Virginia with her family. Her multi cultural background made for a lifelong exploration of roots and identity. Wild nature has always made her feel at home wherever she is, and the animals in her life have always felt like immediate family.
It was love at first sight when she saw Frida Kahlo’s work in 1982 at the Kulturhuset in Stockholm. Some painters that influence her present work are Rick Bartow and Fritz Schroder, even though she often returns to Matisse and Bonnard for inspiration. The writers, Joanna Macy and Eleanor O’Hanlon, inspire her work, as do Jane Goodall and Peter Singer, great minds within animal conservation and animal advocacy.”
